Epic Minecraft Birthday party!
My almost nine-year-old was nearing his birthday and and well into his Minecraft era. Of course he requested a Minecraft birthday party. As one does when they are nine.
I was nervous about it because every Minecraft cake I have googled is anything but simple, and this one wasn’t any different. It was quite complicated and quite tedious. BUT. It WAS epic and he DID love it.
So, 10/10 would recommend doing this for your nine-year-old.
Just a few suggestions:
Make the chocolate squares that you will use for the buildings and pathways well in advance and stash them in your freezer. I did mine in brown, gray, and green shades.
Make the chocolate buildings with the tiny chocolate squares well in advance and let them hang out in the freezer in some sturdy plastic containers where they won’t get crushed. How did I build them? With lots of patience and melted chocolate as the glue.
Make a couple of batches of freezer brownies in advance.
Make a flat chocolate cake using an 11 X 17.
Make a big batch of rice krispie treats with a layer of chocolate krispies on bottom and dyed green krispies on top. This was used for extra variation and texture, especially around the “moat”.
A day or two before assembly, make a big pan of blue jello so its ready. Also, I used extra gelatine to give even more firmness and stability.
For the extra detail in the Minecraft characters, I opted out of making my own and bought Minecraft stickers for cheap on Ebay.
For the gift bags, I bought two packs of bright green bags at the Dollar Tree and used a giant black sharpie to draw on the faces. The lack of symmetry gives it a nice touch ;)
These Kit Kat trees are too cute!
Leif loves sliders so I made enough to feed a crowd and they fit very nicely with the “block” theme.
All of my leftover brownie squares and krispie treats make the perfect party sides! Win!
I didn’t get a picture of the “flame torches” during the party because they ate them so fast I didn’t get a chance to! They were a hit!
