happiness striven
Recently I found a treasure on the roadside. Roadside treasures is usually free junk that most people won’t stop to bother with. Usually it’s the leftovers of a yard sale or something that the owner simply didn’t want to bother trying to sell. Either way, it’s free and sometimes it might be the very thing you never knew you needed.
Today was a hard day. I live in the countryside and two of my kitties ran away from home. Just vanished without a trace. I was struggling to stay happy, to keep my spirits up. Something that you usually have to force upon yourself when your’e a parent and all that you really want to do is curl into bed and be a solid witness to your own depression.
I had this roadside treasure that I had put to the side as a future distraction for a rainy day. Well, today was raining in my head… But you know what? The project turned out so meaningful that in the end, a rainbow actually did come out and scatter the dark clouds away…
This was the lovely that I found at my roadside treasure.
I found it perfect as is. I even managed to find a bag of letters at a thrift store for under a dollar. However, they were black so I would need to paint them.
It was once black but now it is white. (Cue Michael Jackson’s Black or White song;)
After they were all painted and dried I found a cute jar to hold them all in (also a thrift store score, of course!) Now I just need to think of a cute saying before I put it on my wall as the official message board… Unfortunately I couldn’t find some of the letters and had to improvise. But I find it quite perfect and appropriate within its little imperfections.
Happiness is never given, nor is it promised. We have to make a choice every single day and sometimes its the hardest choice that you will have to make.
Also, a quote by Jordan Peterson, because the world needs more of his humble wisdom.
“Perhaps happiness is always to be found in the journey uphill, and not in the fleeting sense of satisfaction awaiting at the next peak.”
