those lovely roots

Small efforts towards minimalism...

In part of my continued efforts towards minimalism, I often spend a lot of thoughts on the function of the objects in my home.

Lately my attention has been turned, several times, towards this bolt (skein?) of twine. It’s baker’s twine that I bought… almost ten years ago. I think at the time I spent about $10 dollars on it from Amazon.

Well it’s always sat on my kitchen counter and has served as a plethora of uses. The red and white color has a holiday appeal as I have used for Christmas crafts to secure home-baked goods for friends, Valentine’s day crafts and everything in between, whether it be purely functional or beautiful. Lately, since my five-year-old has shown an increasing interest in crafts, I find him reaching for this often.

In the future I may buy the black and white version of this baker’s twine to further the versatility of it.

I also love that its simply made of cotton. Because l try to consider those things and how they impact the environment once I toss it.

But still, this lovely little skein (bolt?) of twine still has so much life left to it. And it lends itself graciously to any type of tying function that I might find in my house or home.

Also the beauty of it is that I only need one, until it runs out and I replace it. The time that I save on less choices also adds value to my life.

Butcher/Kraft Paper Dispenser

One idea that I would like to implement in my future tiny house is this.

I love to wrap paper. I love wrapping paper and sometimes my wrapping paper obsession gets a little out-of-control. In the future in my tiny house I would like to have just one option for wrapping paper and the tiny space will gently force me into this mindset.

I love the endless versatility of Kraft paper. It will be used for crafts, its safe to eat on (fried fish or donuts to absorb the grease), and you can wrap Christmas presents or even birthday presents with it! The best part is that it pairs so well with baker’s twine!

Beautiful, functional, and simple = perfect.
