Sugar Skull Wreath
Every time I shop at the Dollar Tree I’m always giddy and amazed at what I can find for a buck. Last year I found a Sugar Skull door hanger and I’ve been obsessed with Sugar Skulls ever since.
I kept this hung on my door all of last Halloween but this year i wanted to add a little bit more to it to really make it pop. Since there’s a good chance that I’ll want to do something different next year, I decided to keep my crafting budget for this project really cheap.
This ended up costing me less than $3 (I had some of the items already on hand), including the price of the door hanger!
Here’s how:
Sugar Skull or your favorite cheap door hanger
2 pack black crepe paper
Paper lace doilies (they come in a 30 pack!)
Large piece of thick cardboard
Store-bought or homemade felt flowers
glue gun/sticks
Using a wreath frame or large bowl, trace the shape of a circle on the cardboard and cut out. Mine was 14” across.
Pull out long strands of crepe paper and fold it multiple times then snip the ends so that you have several 4-5” pieces.
Take each piece and fold at one end, dot the board with glue and place so that it faces outward. Continue doing that in the same direction all the way around the circle. When you finish the entire perimeter, repeat the same process until you have about three layers of crepe paper fringe.
Take a lace doily and cut into quarters. Randomly glue the pieces throughout the wreath for contrast.
Finally fasten your door hanger with two pipe cleaners. And top with some felt flowers. Sugar skulls look great with dark, vibrant flowers but these pastel ones seemed to match my Sugar Skull better.
To hang, I used the jute rope hanger/tie that was already on my Sugar Skull.
