homemade silk flowers
One of my favorite/love-to-hate crafts are homemade silk flowers. I’m not going to lie, they eat up a bit of your time! Some people like to make them over a candle while binging on Netflix. I like to make them over my gas stove because I can control the flame and the process seems to move faster. Either way, once you make them, you’ll be glad you did. They’re so pretty and have an elegance about them that you can’t get from store-bought artificial flowers.
Also, they look adorable as cupcake toppers!
You could even use them to decorate homemade party hats,
Or in place of ribbon for wrapped gifts.
You will need:
1/2 yard polyester lining
Sharp scissors
glue gun
bits of lace or pearls
First, cut out the squares. I like to lay my material out on the table width-wise and fold a few times then cut to make strips. I usually cut strips in 5”, 4”, and 3” wide strips. From there I cut them again and again until I have squares.
Turn your gas stove to low or light a tea candle and you’re ready to begin!
Gently brush the corners of the square up to the heat until it starts to curl up and harden. Let cool for a second and then do that to each corner until you have all edges and corners melted.
Repeat with all of the squares.
I like to arrange them with two large ones on bottom, two medium ones in the middle and one or two small ones on top. Dab hot glue in the middle of each layer to secure. You can also do the top with a pearl or add some lace between some of the layers.
