Hi!

Welcome to my little space.

For this sweetie’s first birthday I wanted to find a super cute dress that's not too flashy but also something that’s pretty special. So I started searching online and started seeing A LOT of cute dresses out there with really high price tags. So before I did something that I really would regret (like spend a bunch of money!!) I decided I better get on that DIY train post haste!

So I introduce to you - this sassy little number! Not the baby (well actually she's a bit sassy too) but this lacy vintage baby party dress that probably takes about as long to make as it takes to frost a cupcake!

First, start with a onesie. This one originally was plain without the collar and glue polka-dots (result of a failed-attempt craft!!).

I preferred to use one with straps (without sleeves) since I was going for a 1920’s vibe. Use your favorite style and your favorite color onesie. I really liked the gray since it gave it a bit of contrast.

You will also need:

1/2 yard stretchy lace (I got some at Walmart for about $2 for a half yard)

onesie

hot glue

scissors

pretty button

extra lace for collar

Next, fit your onesie on a jar that HAS THE SAME CIRCUMFERENCE AS YOUR BABY. So measure your baby around the belly then measure your jar so they closely match in measurements.

Next, measure the length of your lace and cut to size.

If you don’t already have a collar on your dress (which I recommend doing last!) then go ahead and dot some glue directly under the collar and firmly press the lace onto it for about 20 seconds. Move over about two inches and repeat this process going all the way to the back. Do it on both sides.

Finally bring both sides together and secure. My baby’s circumference was 20” and the material I used was 24” wide. So with the extra material I had in the back it created a drapey effect which was really cute and didn’t bug her when she crawled around.

Also I glued on a little brooch button that completes the elegant look!
