My little dude is turning four this month and his current obsession is The Incredibles. While I'm not a huge fan of Disney garb and pretty much anything with a logo, I decided to give him the birthday that I knew that he would love. You only turn four once!

But I knew that to make this party pritty special, there was going to be a lot of DIY involved. But that's okay because when you go the DIY route, you pretty much expect to trade money for time, right?

Let's get started!

Because my little soon-to-be-four-year-old was all about Incredibles this year I knew that the "theme" birthday was upon us. The problem with theme birthdays is that you have less room for creativity. You have to go with specific color themes, etc. Plus anything with a Disney logo will cost more. So I cut corners. I bought most of my stuff (including treats and snacks) from the dollar store and I used Incredibles stickers to decorate. Also I did all of this WITHOUT a printer! I just used old-fashioned handwriting instead. So, let's get started!

Dollar store items: $25

4 packs of streamers in: red, black, yellow, orange; 2 packs balloons: yellow, orange; candle; red square tablecloth; black circle tablecloth; silverware; paper plates in two sizes

Oreos, chips, salsa, Lifesavers gummies, Ring Pops, Red Vines, Cracker Jacks.

Walmart: (including dinner ingredients) $17

3 sheets black felt; 3 packages stretchy headband material in three fun designs/colors

I also bought 2 lbs hamburger, black beans, Koolaid packets, and 20 count package of assorted chips for the "Walking Taco" dinner theme. 

I had family over for the party so I decided to do dinner. If it was just kids then I probably would have skipped that.

First I made six Incredibles masks for party favors. I free-handed drawing the mask shape, cut it out, then used it to cut around the felt for a mask. Cutting the eyes is the trickiest part. Also note that my string ended up not being long enough so I had to add a little extra on. I used hot glue to hold it all together and it stayed.

I happened to have some black envelopes on hand but white would work too. I used small labels to write "Top Secret" but you could just write directly on white envelopes.

Then, for simple party favors I tucked in Lifesaver gummies in tiny cellophane packets and wrote "LIfe-saving fast". I slipped the treat along with the masks into the envelopes as simple party favors. 

For a quick and cheap DIY cake stand I used the two paper plates of different sizes along with a paper towel tube and coordinating streamer. Cut the tube into three rolls (or just use three toilet paper rolls, all the same size. Wrap it with some streamer and glue. Then glue them firmly to the large plate and glue the tops around the rim and press the smaller plate on top.

This is totally optional and takes a lot of time (probably took me an hour, total) for a neat Incredibles sign. I found a large box flat and drew the symbol on then I dotted glue and pressed 2" tears of paper mache on. Enlist help because this one is VERY tedious!!

Finally I made these cute, punny cards for the treat table. They were fun to make up, didn't require a printer, and I got my little guy to help by letting him decorate with stickers. I just folded black cards in half and used large label stickers. So easy!
