OOOh la la!! I stumbled across this lovely bread recipe and it was exactly what I was looking for!

A couple of years ago I read French children don’t get fat. While I have some mixed opinions on the book itself, there were some simple recipes in the book that enticed me. One was a chocolate chip baguette bread recipe… It caught my attention but I never wrote it down. Since it was a library book I never saw the recipe again but that bread always lingered on my mind…

So I searched online for a very simple, yeast-raised chocolate chip bread that takes you just to the point of sweetness without being really sweet. Is it bread or is it dessert? You never really know you just know you want to eat it.

This bread is all of that. Plus I modified it and added in 1/2 cup of sourdough starter and it really gave it that extra flavor component that contrasts with the sweetness.

I had to add in about 1/2 cups extra of flour than what the recipe called for. That could be because of adding in the sourdough start made it wetter but I stopped adding just as the dough was pulling away slightly in my Bosch.

I gave this bread out along with the Cinnamon Raisin Sourdough bread for Christmas and was just as enamored and proud of how it turned out!

Also, the instructions for making the baguette were slightly vague so after kneading it I simply pulled chunks of dough out of the bowl and plopped them onto a silicon-lined baking sheet. I patted them into oval shapes, slashed them with a knife down the middle then sprinkled some raw turbinado sugar on top! Yum!
