Buttermilk caramel apples

Gather your apples. I used a combination of red and yellow.

Skewer your apples. I used regular skewers from Walmart which were only $1 for 100 count. They are pointy at the end and went easily through the core but they are also a little on the flimsy side so you can splurge on these ones instead.

Bring a small pot of water to boil on the stove and dip each apple in the boiling water for about 10 seconds while quickly twirling it around to get all of the wax off the apple. Dry off thoroughly.

Once you’ve made the syrup and its cooled a little, dip each apple, one at a time, and place on a wax paper to set. Once the syrup is completely cool it is even thicker. If you are so inclined (why wouldn’t you be??) dip a second time.

You can also add some straws over the skewers for sass. If your skewer is vertical to your apple then you can usually push it into the apple a little to secure it. Cut off the ends with wire cutters.

Finish with a sprinkling of rainbow sprinkles, like any self-respecting person does.

Buttermilk syrup

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup buttermilk

1 cup sugar

1 tablespoon corn syrup

1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp baking soda

1 cup marshmallows

In a LARGE pot bring the first five ingredients together over medium low heat. Stir frequently. Once the butter melts and after it has bubbled for 3-4 minutes take off the heat and add the baking soda and stir. It will foam a lot so be sure to use a large pot. Add in marshmallows and stir until dissolved.
