Slow Cooker Marinara Sauce
This recipe is one that I snatched from one of my all time favorite food blogs, Budget Bytes. That girls is seriously a genius! I have made this recipe time and again. In fact, if I don't already have a jar or two of this in my freezer then you can bet that a batch is probably already cooking in my crockpot. It is one of the most versatile staples to have in your freezer. Cheap to make, easy to do, and delicious on everything!
Slow Cooker Marinara Sauce
2 (28 oz) cans crushed tomatoes
1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
1 medium yellow onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 whole bay leaves
1 Tbsp dried basil
1/2 Tbsp dried oregano
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
salt and pepper to taste
Add all of the above ingredients into a large slow cooker. Give it a good stir and turn to low for 8 hours or overnight. Turn off slow cooker and cool an hour before dispensing into containers. I have used large, heavy duty freezer Ziploc bags or large quart glass jars for storing in the freezer. The Ziploc bags thaw faster but either way is convenient. I usually store in 2.5-3 cup measurements.
